For Christine, she wanted her kids playing with Rapunzel and Jack Sparrow! I had a good time doing these...I started using watercolor to line the pieces instead of the colored pencil. I think I'm starting to get a technique that works well!
I how you can capture a soft appealing look with both images, even though they show completely different character types. And out of curiosity, do you use a particular type of paper for watercolor? And how do you use to outline the drawings? Thanks for the post!
@ J, Liberatore I use hot pressed watercolor paper by paper Arches, I have used cold press in the past. I started using it because I was layering some colored pencil for deeper grads, but for these I didn't do that.
For the underdrawing, I use a carmine red col-erase pencil
Ooooo, iv just found your blog and im very happy i did!! I too am a vis dev artist for the animation industry, so i get alot of enjoyment coming across other vis dev artist's work.
Your work is beautiful. I love these recent commissions having your friend's children playing with disney characters. I too was recently asked to do something like this. At Christmas i had a commission in where i was asked to draw Mickey and the Disney gang dressed up for Christmas with the client's grandchildren interacting with the characters. As they liked it so much, i am now doing another one from a recommendation of the original client, as the client's grandchildren's friends loved the original pic so much they wanted a personal one for themselves. (hope that make sense)
I am currently working on another one, but this time 2 kids will be interacting with transformers and lots of different comic book heros :)
I always find it so rewarding when artwork is appreciated and hung on the wall by non artistic people. It tends to be mind blowing for them, it makes me happy that they are so pleased. :)
Anyways, you are very talented and i love your style. One day, hopefully we might get the chance to work together one day. My dream has always been to work in house at feature animation one day. :)
I know many artist who already work there and i was invited to a studio tour when i was working in LA last year. Ill be working/ sharing a booth with talented ex Feature Animation vis dev man "Craig Elliott" at San diego ComiCon as well as CTN... so maybe see you there? :)

Ps... Great name!!! I am actually a "Victoria" too!! (Iv just ALWAYS been know as 'Tori'). I would only ever get called 'VIctoria' on bank statements and when my parents would shout at me for being naughty when i was a kid ;)
